Robyn

President

Robyn is an accredited babywearing educator for Oklahoma City Babywearers. She holds the title of Master Babywearing Educator (MBE) and is responsible for the training, curriculum development, and testing of our Volunteer Babywearing Educators. She joined Oklahoma City Babywearers in the Fall of 2013 and has been an active member ever since. Robyn joined leadership in April 2014 as a VBE and attained her MBE in July of 2016. As a nurse, Robyn has delivered lectures and poster presentations about the benefits of babywearing to healthcare professionals at numerous conferences since 2013 and conducted a research study on the experience of babywearing infants after discharge from a neonatal intensive care unit. Robyn has published two articles in scientific journals on babywearing and it’s potential for use as an adjunct to therapy. Robyn has three sons, Noah, Ashur, and Kale. Her first carrier was a hiking carrier in 1999 but grew to enjoy wraps and meh dais with her younger children.

Brianna

Vice President

Brianna arrived to OKC Babywearers in the spring of 2017, and  very quickly joined the leadership team. Brianna works as a doula providing prenatal and postpartum services to mothers through her business, Wild Beginnings Doula Care. Her inspiration to support women in their birthing choices and provide them the tools they desire is also born out of concern for the emergent problems of Oklahoma’s high maternal and infant mortality rates. Racially congruent care is evidence-based to reduce quality gaps in maternal care and babywearing is a tool in her work to improve birth outcomes. Brianna's favorite carrier is the meh dai and back wrapping is her new favorite!

Shawn

Secretary/Treasurer

Shawn is a Volunteer Babywearing Educator for Oklahoma City Babywearers. She has been a member  2015 and completed her educator training in 2018. Shawn first began wearing her son, Ryan, in a meh dai a few days after his birth for walks in the neighborhood and getting things done around the house. She very quickly moved on to ring slings, an occasional up in a SSC, and woven wraps. She prefers the comfort of woven wraps, but will opt for a SSC from time to time.

Shawn works for the University of Oklahoma, is pursuing an additional degree in Management Information Technology, and serves on the board of Middle Earth Child Development Center in Norman. After hectic work days, she appreciates the opportunity to reconnect with her son through babywearing. When she's not working, in class, or toting Ryan around on her back at the grocery store, she enjoys practicing yoga at home and spotting cows beyond the back fence with her animal loving toddler.

Volunteers Wanted

This space saved for you!

If you love babywearing and helping people, contact us for information about volunteering. We have a standardized training program so you can feel confident teaching and helping people with their carriers. We also have an optional certification you can earn as a babywearing educator. Volunteering for OKC Babywearers is a great way to get teaching experience, and experience helping run a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Linda Santiago

President Emeritus, 2017-2019

In 2017 Linda Santiago was elected president of Oklahoma City Babywearers. During her time as president, the national organization we were affiliated with suddenly disbanded. Linda’s untiring work resulted in Oklahoma City Babywearers being awarded 501(c)(3) status in the state of Oklahoma in the Fall of 2018. This change has allowed our organization to conduct more community outreaches and educational events than we were previously able to, as well as keep all donations local. Her professional background in business management and education has greatly benefited our organization. She and her family have also translated some of our key educational materials in Spanish. Linda is starting graduate school at OU and retiring from Oklahoma City Babywearers. We will miss her greatly but even in her absence her influence will continue to push us forward. Best of luck at OU, Linda! We love you!
